Mendoza

Our first two month of travelling have already passed. How time flies by...

Today (March 17th), we pack our bags and take a bus to Mendoza. While we waited at the bus station, a dog peed on Marcos backpack and while cursing the dog between gritted teeth we were now really ready to leave Bariloche...

We travelled with Andesmar which showcased their new buses on their website, but unfortunately we've got an old one for our ride to Mendoza. As they felt the need to rub it in there was a brandnew bus from Andesmar Chile just next to our old bus 'grrr'. Anyway, the drive to Mendoza went well and we managed to sleep a couple of hours as well.

On our arrival on Friday morning we were a little overwhelmed with the size of this city.  We've booked an apartment through Airbnb and were not that lucky this time. Even though the host is a so called "superhost" he wasn't as communicative as he was described by other guests, He didn't reply to our messages sent through the platform and only very late to the ones sent via WhatsApp.  When we met at the apartment he barely spoke two sentences with us - keep in mind that we did communicate in Spanish with him and not in English.... - and left us with a spacious but quite old fashioned apartment and no information whatsoever about Mendoza. Not even a map.

We got those information at the tourist information in town and were greeted by cockroaches in the bathroom when we got back "home". At least there was some bug spray in the apartment so we were able to get rid of them, but we were highly disapointed about our host and his hospitality. We had been looking forward to our stay here for the last view days.

The next day we tried to do some sight seeing but were disapointed again since nothing we saw came even close to what we would call "a sight". We spent the evening at home on the spacious balcony (a really good feature of the apartment) and said hello to cockroaches that came out of the same spot in the bathroom at night again...

We booked two tours to the vineyards for Monday and Tuesday and are happy to travel on to Santiago on Wednesday. Should we ever come back to Mendoza we would rent a car from the airport and drive right to the wine valleys since the city of Mendoza has absolutely nothing to offer (at least not to us).
